What is Suboxone?
Suboxone is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. Suboxone comes in film form (similar to Listerine strips) and is taken sublingually which means placed under the tongue and left to dissolve. Suboxone is an opiate blocking medication used to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms for opioid addicted individuals, it can also be used to treat moderate acute pain and moderate chronic pain.
Suboxone can be used as a way for people to gradually ween off other opiates such as Codeine, Demorol, Morphine, Oxycontin and Percocet, making the withdrawal process more bearable or as a long-term medicated assisted therapy or maintenance drug to help decrease the risks of relapsing on heroin or synthetic opiates.
